raised ground - floor

brockley, london, UK

A detached two storey house is split into two flats, each occupying a single level within the building and each occupying half of the rear garden.  This results in a garden that is seldom used, overgrown and which does not provide a great aspect for our client on the ground floor.

In order to improve both the internal and external experiences, the portion of ground owned by our client is raised and becomes the floor of the living/dining space and an external terrace.  This raised ground floor becomes an occupied plinth that demarcates ownership of the garden and provides a private aspect upon which the ground floor living spaces can overlook.
