Warborough Farm

Warborough Farm is located in Oxfordshire, looking out onto the Berkshire Downs and the Vale of the White Horse.

Entrance to the farm leads to a formal courtyard enveloped by traditional red brick and timber clad buildings with slate/clay tiles roofs giving this part of the farm a character of solidity with only glimpses through small gaps to the farmyard and land beyond. The courtyard gives access to several storage buildings, a tithe barn, the farm office, stables and is overlooked by the farmhouse.

Beyond the courtyard are the more modern farm buildings comprising of open and closed sheds of various sizes and uses, a grain store, polytunnels and hardstanding. The character of this area is defined by diagonal views between and through buildings and structures to the landscape. The agricultural buildings filter light through their roofs and open elevations and counter the solid formality of the courtyard building with an informal more functional setting.

At the edges of the agricultural buildings and from the farmhouse is where you can feel the open, expansive, and natural character of the wider farm landscape. There are views out to rolling pastures grazed by livestock, sewn with wildflowers with pockets of woodland.

The project comprises a wide ranging, sensitive masterplan for the site to carefully adapt the farm to better cater for our clients. In doing this we are exploring extending and adapting existing buildings, creating new buildings, and reimagining the landscape within and around the farm. We want to do this whilst always being referential to the three characteristics identified above to ensure that all proposals are grounded within their context.
