Thames Artist Studio
Thames Artist Studio
Located within the Narrow Street Conservation Area, this area of Limehouse is synonymous with London’s maritime history with former brick warehouses for undocking ships lining the majority of the streets.
Used primarily as a residential building, our clients, artist and photographer Benedict Redgrove and renowned researcher and inventor Anna Talvi, purchased the top floor duplex penthouse with a view to create a purpose-built studio, their own residence and living spaces for artists-in-residence. The scheme brings in south-facing light to the space, creating a destination for photoshoots and filming.
Positioned within a gap in the historic waterfront warehouses provides a strong context, and the decision was made to strip back lining of the walls to reveal the historic brick and steel features to enhance this interstitial ‘gap’ quality. Other internal linings were stripped back to reveal the existing concrete frame to bring the scheme back to the contextual, industrial textures of a dockland setting.
